What we do
Our insight into outdoor gear comes from using it. That means we ride with it, hike with it, run in it, take it camping with our families, ski the deeps, and brave whatever Mother Nature throws our way to bring real-world experience and expertise to our analysis. We always apply an objective lens to the gear we test. But reviews are inherently subjective, and Outdoor Crunch wants to arm you with data as well as informed opinions that go well beyond the specs provided by manufacturers.
So yeah, we’re going to provide numbers-rich, photos-heavy reviews and comparisons of products. But we believe the biggest value Outdoor Crunch provides is our honest takes after time on the trail.
Why we do this
We want to support more people being outside more often. We share your passion for adventure and the outdoors. And we know the importance of having the right gear for the day. Outdoor Crunch's mission is to provide the information and insight that help you choose the best products for your needs. Ultimately, we exist to help you get outside - whether it's training for a 5k, summiting a 14er, hiking the Appalachian Trail, ski touring the backcountry, or whatever nutty adventure you dream up next.
Getting outside has always been at the core of our friendship. Switzerland, Summer 2000.
Who we are
Brent and Chris are childhood friends from the East Coast and have both called the West home for over 20 years. Currently both Colorado mountain town residents, we raise kids and work day jobs from our home bases in the Rockies. Playing outside is at the core of our friendship, so providing detailed information on gear to other users is a natural extension of what we've always done together.
How we make money
We’re 100% reader supported. That means that if you find our content valuable and purchase a jacket or other piece of gear after clicking one of the links in our articles, we may receive a small commission. It doesn’t cost you anything, but it allows us to keep producing quality, in-depth content to better inform your future outdoor gear purchases. We have other jobs; no one goes into the outdoor industry to get rich. Outdoor Crunch exists because we love doing it.
In most cases we buy the gear we test and review. Sometimes brands will send us gear to test, and their expectation - and our insistence - is that we give you an honest assessment of the product. We'll never give a glowing review to something just because it was sent to us. We rely on the gear we use to keep us safe, comfortable and high-performing in our outdoor pursuits. We hold ourselves and our content to the same high standards.
